DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY : GOVT CHAMPHAI COLLEGE
The department of Botany was established in the year 1995. The department has been successfully produced a good number of quality graduate students since then. Currently there are six (6) faculty members in the department. As affiliated under the Mizoram University, the Department of Botany follows the Syllabus approved by the Mizoram University which is based on Choice Base Credit System (CBCS). The course comprises 6 semesters of which each semesters duration last for 6 months. The course offers for the BSc courses in Botany includes :
- Cryptogams
- Phanerogams
- Plant Physiology, Biochemistry, Ecology
- Microbiology, Cytology, Genetics, Evolution
- Fungi, Plant pathology, Biostatistics
- Algae, Lichen and Bryophytes- Theory
- Cytogenetics, Plant Breeding and Bioinformatics
- Environmental Biology and Ethnobotany
- Pteridophytes, Gymnosperms, Paleobotany and Palynology
- Angiosperm taxonomy, Anatomy and Embryology
- Plant Metabolism, Biochemistry, Thermodynamics
- Plant Biotechnology, Experimental Embryology
Department faculties and students are actively involved and participate in the activities organized by the department such as:
- Field trip at Murlen National Park
- Study Tour at Myanmar, Kalay District
- Study Tour at Assam Botanical park, & Kajiranga National Park
- Field Trip at Kawtchhuah ropui , Vangchhia for Tree Species Identification and Marking.
- Tree Species Identification and marking inside the college campus.
- Field Trip at Lurh Tlang for Tree Species Identification and Marking.
- Establishment of Botanical Garden
- Orchids collection and planting
The Department of Botany have published a book with a title , ‘The campus Tree Species Identification : Govt Champhai College’, which provide a lot of information about the campus tree species.
